In association with the Yuma Area Ag Council, Western Growers helped sponsor the Biennial Yuma Legislative Ag Tour.  The two-day bus tour takes place every election year and is designed to educate Arizona legislators about the Yuma Ag Industry. Fifteen legislators, including Speaker-elect David Gowan and Senate Majority Leader-elect Steve Montenegro, participated in the tour this week, as well as ten House and Senate staff members.

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) announced yesterday an initial allocation of 10% for state water project customers in 2015.  The initial allocation amount is slightly larger than last year’s final allocation of 5%, and according to the Department’s press release, may be adjusted up or down depending on the volume of rain and snowfall that reaches California this winter.

“Congress must reassert its constitutional authority to make laws and pass immigration reform legislation critical to the needs of our industry,” said Western Growers President and CEO, Tom Nassif,  in a statement released to the press  in anticipation of the executive action the president will take later today. The president intends to announce tonight, actions which will remove the threat of deportation for up to five million people. The president’s executive order will expand upon the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy that was implemented in 2012 to include parents of U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident children.
