From Lana’i, Hawai’i, Adam grew up with 3 brothers, 2 older and 1 younger. Their strong family bond fostered kindness and respect for others. At the age of 17, a startling incident changed his life. He noticed someone struggling in the ocean. He jumped up and rushed into the water to save the person’s life, not even thinking of his own. The person, compelled to express a token of appreciation, gave Adam a full paid tuition to culinary school, the pathway to his dream.
Now, he is a chef, an eager chef. Chef Adam, who is armed with his culinary education and passion for cooking, has worked at various restaurants in Portland, Oregon, and has eventually found his way back to the island of Lana’i, as he has worked at the Lodge at Koele for five years. Since then, he has been promoted to sous chef, then Chef de Cuisine at the Manele Bay Resort on Lana’i and Kona Village at Hale Samoa in Kona, Hawai’i, and finally on to Executive Chef at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Wailea, Maui. He has even worked for Steve Jobs, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Steven Tyler. Chef Adam’s career continues to flourish in the culinary world as he gains additional experience at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas, where he has created his own spice company, The Spice Rack, which offers natural, high-quality spices from around the world. With this newly acquired business, he has used this to keep going on his culinary adventure and has been consulting with other well-established restaurants and businesses.
Recently, this talented Chef is recognized globally. He has won the title in the coveted Food Network show “The Great Food Truck Race – Season 4,” where he, along with his brother, Lanai Tabura, and friend, Shawn Felipe, team up to take the prize, make appearances on Cooking Hawaiian Style as a Celebrity Guest Chef, and recently, he has been on another Food Network show, Cutthroat Kitchen, where he demonstrates his vast knowledge of cooking, creativity and resourcefulness. Through all his endeavors, Chef Adam has the respect and support from his fans from all over the world, especially from Hawai’i. With 20+ years of experience of cooking, he is aiming towards his brand as Hawai’i’s Country Chef, #HIcountryChef. Recipe building, cookbook assembling and consulting restaurant concepts are also a part of his quest of fire. All is a little bit of salt, a little bit of pepper, and a little bit of overall flavor.
