Uesugi Farms began as a 15-acre operation in Morgan Hill by George Uesugi who was farming Napa cabbage and strawberries. In 1979, Joseph Aiello and his partner, Dennis Humphreys, purchased the company. Chili peppers were added to the company’s list of commodities and Uesugi Farms began to carve out the niche it holds to this day.
In 1980, Uesugi Farms added several more commodities including pumpkins, corn, beans, leeks, napa, bok choy and, most notably, bell peppers. Based on their current pepper production, Uesugi Farms is known as one of the premier grower/packer/shippers in the industry.
Before purchasing Uesugi Farms, Joe worked as a foreman at Newhall Land and Development Company. He earned his bachelor of science degree in crop science from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1971. He is a member of the California Pepper Commission, Morgan Hill Fish and Game, Pinnacle Bank Advisory Board and is a retired member of the Santa Clara County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
Joe was elected to the board in 2009.
