Ken has been with Western Growers since 2009 and advocates on a number of issues including: immigration reform, impact of healthcare reform on seasonal agriculture, tax reform legislation, and the need to open international markets for U.S. agriculture. Additionally, he has served as a leader in the Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance, developing recommendations and advocating for the 2014 Farm Bill. 

Prior to coming to Western Growers, Ken was Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Congressional Affairs from 2007 to 2009. In that capacity, he advocated on behalf of USTR on issues related to agriculture, labor and environment policy, trade preferences, WTO disputes and negotiations, as well as promoting passage of Free Trade Agreements with Panama, Colombia, and Korea. 

He started his career in Washington with the House Ways and Means Committee. Ken is from Bakersfield, CA and his agriculture background includes summer jobs working in a vineyard and doing fruit inspection for an export company.

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives was able to advance Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) by a vote of 218-208. The Senate will likely consider the stand alone TPA measure next week and will also take up Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) legislation separately from TPA.

Today, at presstime, the House Ways and Means Committee was still considering the Trade Priorities and Accountability (TPA) Act of 2015. Today’s action by Ways and Means comes on the heels of the Senate Finance Committee, which moved the TPA legislation out of that committee yesterday.
