Regulatory Update and Action Needed on 1,3-D

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) is in the process of updating restrictions and use limits for 1,3-D (e.g. Telone). For the last several years, DPR has undertaken an exhaustive scientific review of 1,3-D as part of DPR’s requirement to update conditions governing its use in California. We recently signed a letter urging DPR to adopt reasonable rules that recognize that growers of more than 50 crops depend on pre-plant soil fumigants like 1,3-D and that these products have a long history of being used and applied safely.

DPR is likely facing pressure from activists who want to unnecessarily restrict the use of this important crop protection tool. We want legislators representing growers to be aware that DPR’s actions could negatively impact their constituents farming operations. Please contact your legislators and urge them to weigh in with DPR.
