From pumpkins to plant biotechnology, here’s what we’ve been up to on social media this week.
We kicked off our Pumpkin Palooza series, putting our members in the spotlight and giving consumers a behind-the-scenes look at the people, products and processes that bring a seasonal favorite from the field to the front porch.
At Van Groningen & Sons in Manteca, Calif., we explored some of the 40 different pumpkin varieties grown under their Pamper’d Farms label and learned what makes each unique, from their shapes, colors and sizes to their uses for decorating and cooking.
We also headed to Nuss Farms in Lodi, Calif., where fifth-generation farmer Tim Nuss walked us through the pumpkin harvest process, from planting and cutting to sizing and hand-harvesting.
On X, we shared Western Growers’ Jeana Cadby’s visit to Stanford with Rep. Zoe Lofgren to explore plant biotechnology research and its potential applications for agriculture, including crop resilience and improved water and nutrient use efficiency.
With Halloween right around the corner, Pumpkin Palooza gave us a timely opportunity to introduce consumers to our members, show the work behind one of fall’s most recognizable crops and remind them of the important role growers play in making seasonal traditions like Halloween possible.
